A contender for the flag-bearer of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC), Alhaji Osman Thonkla Bangura, has revealed to Concord Times his plans to cause serious problems for the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in their stronghold in the eastern region of the country if selected or elected as the ruling party’s presidential candidate for next year’s elections.

“I have the ability to cause a serious problem for the SLPP,” he said.

Thonkla’s father hailed from the north, but moved to the east to ply his trade as a carpenter and later settled in Kenema where he turned out to be one of the most successful northern businessmen.

The APC flag-bear aspirant told Concord Times he was born in Ngelehun – 12 miles to Kenema town – raised and schooled in Kenema. He noted that in addition to his roots in the north, the opposition has everything to fear in the ballot box if he clinches the right to have his face on the ballot paper.

He said the APC needs someone who is a bridge-builder between the south- east and the north, adding that he is the right person to deliver that to them. “I have lot of ammunition to cause fear for the opposition,” he further stressed.

Alhaji Osman has not held any political office in the country but he has always been very active in the UK front. He is a member of the Labour Party as well.
