Accused person, Abubakarr Bangura has on Tuesday 31st May 2016 arraigned before Magistrate Abubakarr Binneh Kamara of the Freetown Magistrates Court No.1 to answer to related counts of Domestic Violence Contrary to Section 2(I) of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007.


The Police Prosecutor, Seargent 922 Dumbuya alleged in the particular of offence that, accused person on between the date of 27th December, 2015 and 17th February 2016 at the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) hall at Brook Fields in Freetown being in a domestic relationship with Aminata Gbla, to wit husband and wife relationship physically and emotionally abused the said Aminata Gbla.

In her testimony, the Prosecution Witness one (PW1) Aminata Gbla recalled on Sunday 27th December, 2015 and Wednesday 17th February 2016 and told the court that, she got married with the accused on the 27th December, 2015 adding that, just after their wedding they went to the YWCA hall were the reception took place. She told the court that the accused abandoned her at the reception and later went to her house.

PW1 continued that, the accused later called her, instructing her to open the door. As a result, she sent her cousin, Ada to open the door. She said, the accused came with one of their best men insisting that the guy was going to spend the night with them in the same room and the same bed. She said, she later accepted the accused option and they all slept in the same room.

She said, on the next day, in the morning hours the accused informed her that he was going to Makeni to cure his swollen ankle. She told the court that since then, she had not seen the accused neither communicated with him. She said, due to the accused behavior she concluded that the accused married to her for her properties. She informed the court that she later called the accused mother and informed her about the incident.

PW1 further said, she and her colleagues went to Makeni and summoned the accused family informing them that she was not there to talk on married matters but for the accused to returned her properties (Car, 15 Million Leones and one big freezer).

She said, after a week, the accused came with his mother and sister to apologized, but she refused to accept. She said, her Godparents requested that the accused should handover all her properties, adding that the accused refused and instructed her to take any action she wants to take against him.

The accused was represented by led defense counsel Lawyer L.J. Kamara whilst the matter was adjourned to the 8th June,2016 for continuation of cross examination.
