Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) made the highest Profit Before Tax in 2015 among the 9 Commercial banks that have so far published their financial statements for the year ended 31st December 2015.


GTBank made Le46.76 billion profit before tax in 2015 which more than doubled the Le19.77 billion Profit Before Tax that United Bank of Africa (UBA) which ranked second reported in 2015.

Standard Chartered Bank ranks third recording Le17.19 billion as Profit Before Tax in 2015.

Guaranty Trust Bank topped the list even for Profit After Tax, reporting Le32.73 billion for 2015, with UBA posting Le13.62 billion and Standard Chartered Le12.19 billion respectively for the same period.

Keystone Bank which ranks 9th, was the only bank among the nine to record a loss in 2014. However they moved from a Le5.91 billion loss in 2014 to recording a Le207 million profit before tax in 2015. Likewise it moved from a Le5.92 billion loss in 2014 to Le158 million Profit After Tax in 2015.

Access Bank ranked 7th in terms of Profit Before Tax but moved to 8th position in Profit After Tax. Zenith Bank ranked 8th in Profit Before Tax but moved to 7th in Profit After Tax.

There are 13 commercial banks operating in the country. Ten of them are foreign banks or subsidiaries of foreign banks and 3 are indigenous banks. One of the 3 indigenous banks Union Trust Bank is private owned.
