Sierra Leone‬ has postponed the 2016 local council elections by 14 months citing financial constraints and the inability of the electoral commission to do boundary delimitation in good time.

Civil society activist and lawyer, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai has condemned it saying it sounds like a precursor for postponing presidential and legislative elections slated for not later than February 2018.

He says breaching boundary delimitation is less significant than “usurping the people’s mandate to elect their leaders”.
