On Saturday 26th December 2015, the Maada and Fatima Bio Foundation continued its exemplary and generous work to care and support children by feeding 1,500 children for Christmas at the Bonthe Municipal Community Centre.
The purpose of the feeding event in Bonthe Island by the Foundation was a continuation of its efforts to ensure that children from deprived communities enjoy the happiness of Christmas.
At the feeding event in the Bonthe Municipal Community Centre, both founders of the Foundation, Rtd. Brig. Bio and Mrs Fatima Bio thanked the children, parents and members of the communities for attending the special Christmas feeding event.
The welcome address was made by the SLPP Member of Parliament for constituency 078, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas while the former National Secretary General of SLPP, Jacob Jusu Saffa also spoke about the Foundation giving back to children.
The children, their parents and members of the communities were very appreciative of the feeding event and many expressed their delights for the generosity of the Foundation.
The latest feeding event of 1,500 children in Bonthe Island to celebrate Christmas has been the third children’s event organised by the Maada and Fatima Bio Foundation over the Christmas period.
It can be recalled that on the Thursday, 17th December 2015, the Foundation donated Christmas gifts to 250 children admitted in three major hospitals in Freetown – 34 Military Hospital, Connaught Hospital and Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (also known as Cottage).
Also on Saturday, 19th December 2015, the Foundation organised a special Christmas feeding event for 1,200 children from deprived communities in Freetown at the Miatta Conference Garden.
Traditionally, Christmas has been celebrated by many responsible politicians traveling home and sharing with relatives and members of their community in the spirit of Christmas.
While the Ebola outbreak and state of emergency last year could not permit the Rtd. Brig Bio and his wife to travel to Bonthe Island to organise their traditional Christmas feeding event for Children, in December 2013 Rtd. Brig. Bio and his wife organised Christmas feeding event for 1,000 children in Bonthe. Therefore, with an increased number of 1,500 children in this latest Christmas feeding event in 2015 through their Foundation, Rtd. Brig. Bio and Fatima Bio have embodied part of what Christmas symbolises – showing love, care and sharing with deprived members of our society.
The latest Christmas feeding event in Bonthe Island this year was also attended by the Mayor of Bonthe Island Municipality, Mayor Layemin Joe Sandi, Senior SLPP Stakeholders, members of the Julius Maada Bio Women’s Wing, UK, amongst others.
