Alhaji Brima Koroma, a senior member of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) yesterday appeared in court for allegedly defaming one Alex Jonjo, complainant in the matter. The SLPP Administrative Secretary faces one count of defamatory libel contrary to law.

The particulars of offence state that the accused on the 3rd March 2016 at the SLPP Headquarters on Wallace Johnson in Freetown allegedly made a defamatory remark against Alex Jonjo, claiming that he was a PMDC member”.

The complainant who was not represented by counsel was not allowed to proceed with his testimony as according to Magistrate Binneh Kamara the matter is a private criminal sermon of which the Police cannot prosecute on behalf of the complainant.

Based on that Magistrate Binneh Kamara said he will not allow the witness to testify in the absence of a solicitor. The accused is represented by Lawyer Eke Ahmed Halloway who applied for bail on behalf of his client.

Bail was granted in the sum of fifteen Million Leones and one surety that is expected to produce a national passport and to be approved by the Deputy Master and Registrar.

The complainant was strongly advised by Magistrate Binneh Kamara to be represented by a solicitor on the next adjourned date. The matter was adjourned to the 19th July 2016.
