It was turmoil this morning at the Rokupa/Congowata axes East of Freetown as angry youths reportedly took on police.


Information gathered by Sierraloaded correspondents alleged that two police officers sustained injuries while some innocent women and children collapsed after the officers continually fired Tear Gas Cannisters to calm down the angry youths.

The officer commanding the Police operation, Supt Dennis Taylor told Umaru Fofona that they used tear gas to calm down the angry youths and had already made several arrests but couldn’t say how many as more holed up at the Rokupr wharf were being chased.

According to reports from the community, Police is enforcing an eviction court order in a land matter that was still in court. However the Police Superintendent denied stating that His men had carried out the operation on a lawful court order for the demolition of the houses.

He added that the court order was without issues yesterday only for them to see hundreds of youths this morning blocking the streets and setting tyres on fire.

He said the situation was under control with “mopping-up operations” ongoing. But sources on the ground say they are still running amok with the protesters.
