If the version of Chief Superintendent Kaetu Gbison is anything to go by, then the inhabitants of both Port Loko and Kambia Districts will now breathe a sigh of relief from what had turned out to be regular torments in the hands of armed robbers.

Chief Superintendent Gbison, who doubles as OSD Coordinator in charge of North /Western Region, said his Area of responsibility will no longer serve a safe haven for Criminals. He said modalities have now been put in place not only to prevent a recurrence of such activities, but to as well ensure that all those who participated in robbery related matters are pursued and brought to book.

The North /Western OSD Regional Coordinator made the disclosure in an interview with the Sierra Leone News Agency [SLENA]. He said his area of responsibility comprised 5 Police Divisions in Kambia and Port Loko Districts respectively. He accepted that there has been a series of armed robbery related cases in his region of late.

He further noted that these spate of attacks have resulted to the untimely deaths of peaceful and defenceless citizens. Chief Superintendent Gbison made a particular reference to the robbery incidents at Lungi in the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom, where a total of 2 people lost their lives in separate attacks.

The first of these, he said, involved a man who was murdered at his Mahera Road residence. Barely a month later, Haja Humu Jalloh- wife of the Port Loko District Fullah Tribal Chief, also died after she was allegedly manhandled by Robbers, who stormed her residence at Rotifunk /Lungi.

Chief Superintendent Kaetu Gbison said drastic measures have since been put in place after a consultative meeting with his Commanders in the Region. His face beamed with obvious relief when disclosing that some suspects in both matters have now been rounded up and are currently undergoing interrogation in Police custody. He said 4 suspects were arrested with one Pistol and an AK47 rifle. These, he said, are part of a gang of 8 hard core criminals from Waterloo that have been parading the Region.

While expressing optimism that the remaining gang members will soon be rounded up, the Regional Coordinator said, his Personnel have intensified night patrols, demolished most ghettos, make a deployment in gray areas across. He said his Region has also stepped up the intelligence wing of the Police in a bid to enhance the provision of information on the activities of hard core criminals. He said even though the area is quiet and Police are on top of situation, there is need for the cooperation of all and sundry.

He therefore urged stakeholders especially members of the Police Partnership Board to help with information on bad people adding that no criminal operation will succeed without the connivance of members of the Local Community.
