A Pakistani national, Bhatti Zulfiqar Ali has been arrested through the Police Interpol in Freetown and charged to court for allegedly being a threat to national security.
The accused made his second appearance before Principal Magistrate Binneh Kamara of Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate court No.1 yesterday to answer to two counts indictment relating to subversion, entering Sierra Leone without a valid travelling certified document contrary to Section 19(2F) and (1A) of the Non citizens Registration, Immigration and Expulsion Act 1965 and using a forged visa contrary to Section 36(1) of Act No14 of the Non Citizens Registration Immigration and Expulsion Act of 1965.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on Thursday 28th January 2016 at the Freetown International Air Port, Lungi in the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom allegedly entered Sierra Leone without valid travelling certificate document.
On the other count, the accused on the said date at the above address in Freetown, without lawful authority used a forged document on which the Sierra Leone Immigration department landing visa has been forged.
Counsel representing the accused, Lawyer I.P Mammie recommended that without wasting the court time, the accused is to be deported back to his country as the law permits the right to such offences especially when it involved a foreign national.
Magistrate Binneh Kamara considered the recommendation of defense counsel but adjourned the matter for today, for him to go through the statutory in relation to such offence/charge.
Police Sergeant 922 Dumbuya is prosecuting the matter. The accused was refused bail and has been remanded at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center in Freetown.
