Sierra Leone’s electoral commission has complained of police harassment against its staff with less than a week to a crucial runoff presidential election.

Top officials at NEC told Umaru Fofona that police have entered their premises in Kambia and Falaba districts, as well as in Freetown “unwarranted and unannounced”, thereby obstructing their work.

They say the visits have been “confrontational and intimidating” to staff with the tendency of compromising the election.

However when contacted, the head of the police criminal investigations department would not comment, promising to call me back.
