Reports reaching the Global Times indicate that former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is set to relinquish the position of Chairman and Leader of the main opposition APC Party. President Koroma has held that position since 2002.
Sources close to the former President confirmed last night that, on 21st June 2019, he made an undertaken to the current Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh in Makeni that he would step down from the position of Chairman and Leader of the APC Party if his security detail was restored.
Very recently, the Vice President ordered the restoration of President Koroma’s security detail with the understanding that he would step down from the position of Chairman and Leader of the APC Party immediately.
APC sources confirmed last night that, a Mini Party Convention will be held any time next month to enable President Koroma to officially announce his retirement from frontline Party politics.
Meanwhile, radical group calling itself NRM has called on the Party’s frail-looking and aging National Secretary General, Ambassador Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh to also step down and give way to young and enthusiastic party members to take over the administration of the party.
So far, three prominent members of the party have expressed interest in replacing President Koroma as Chairman and Leader of the Party. The three are Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, Dr. Richard Konteh and Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo.
