The High Court Judge in Freetown, Justice Sam Margai has on Tuesday February 9, 2016 convicted and sentenced one Abdul Bangura confirmed to be a driver, to six years imprisonment for murdering Abass Kargbo. And fined ten million leones.


Abdul Bangura (convict) was arraigned on a one-count of murder that was preferred against him by the State. In addition the offence was reduced to manslaughter by the State prosecution led by Ahmed G. M Bockarie Esq. who filed an application amending the indictment.

According to the State prosecution, the convicted accused on Friday November 4, 2011 at Jet area Brima Lane Wellington east of Freetown murdered Abass Kargbo during a battle over a cup around 2pm.

Pleading on behalf of the convict, defense counsel Madam Cherye Blake said her client have been of good conduct in prison ever since he was under investigation at the lower on to the time he was indicated by the State.

She begged the judge to tamper Justice with mercy and appealed for less sentence.

On his part, the convict apologized to the relatives of the deceased and begged the court for mercy. He promised not to repeat the said crime again.

In his judgment Justice Sam Margai stated that the convicted accused faced with an amended indictment pleaded guilty during the trial and he has conducted himself in pardonable.

“Taken into account the accused’s plea to the family of the deceased including plea mitigation from his counsel he is to serve a term of six (6) in jail or pay a fine of ten million leones” he ruled.
