Popular veteran journalist who doubles as owner and director of Eagle and Citizen radios, Dr. David Tam-Bayoh, commonly known as Monologue, has declared his intention to enter into the political landscape of the country.

Dr. Bayoh made this declaration on Saturday 11th February 2017, during his usual weekly popular Monologue programme. Dr. Bayoh said now is the right time for him to enter the political world.

He referenced other media practitioners who had entered politics such as, Hon Ibrahim Ben-Kargbo and Hon Frank Posowa. He said “there are Politicians and authorities who are handling and taking decisions which are not in the favour of the country.” He maintained that the government must not treat the people as “aliens” but rather as “bosses who Politicians are elected to serve.”

A petty trader at Abacha Street, Adama Conteh, whose view we sounded said, she was in deep shock when she heard about Dr. Bayoh’s intention of entering the political arena, although noting that “it is a suspicion the general public usually hold for persons who use the media or other means to make themselves. She expressed deep frustration over what she referred to as ‘no hope for the vulnerable groups.”

Abdulai Kanu, an ardent listener to the Monologue program said he supported the decision of Dr. Baryoh and believed that with his presence in the government things will change for good. He asked for God’s guidance and protection and wished him well in his political journey.
Ibrahim Bangura, a well-known Social and political commentator said Dr. Baryoh “is a competent and dedicated man who loves this country and can change the face of this nation”. He urged people not be scared of Dr. Bayoh’s intentions. He however raised concern about who will take over the Monologue Programme.

The million dollar question which is on the lips of Sierra Leoneans is which party is he going to join, as some supporters of the main opposition Sierra Leones People Party, who spoke to this medium, called on him to join the SLPP because according to them, his uncle, the democratically elected Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Chief Samuel Sam Sumana who was expelled and relieved from his party membership and Vice President position, is highly anticipating to join the SLPP.

When answering to questions posed to him in a telephone interview Dr. Bayoh said, “Rumors are Part of African Politics, But None of these Rumors Is Correct. Any Party I Belong To Will Be the Party that will win the Coming Elections. I will talk at the right time”’ he is a member of a political party in the country, but he was not actively involved.
