Former Sierra Leone Deputy Defence Minister, Paolo Conteh will appear at the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in Freetown this morning “for questioning on various military procurement issues” when he was in charge.
A source at the ACC says Sannah Marrah, the former Director General of the Ministry of Defence has been arrested for alleged corruption.
Palo Conteh is among the three major arms and ammunition investigations the Sierra Leone army is currently undergoing. He is also been wanted for various corruption offences perpetrated during the Ernest Bai Koroma administration.
The Police had on 7 July discovered two bundles of combat tents and 12 empty ammunition boxes at the residence of the former defence and internal affairs minister. Police say they made the discovery acting on a tip off, but Conteh has denied any sinister intentions.
Meanwhile the anti-graft body will today present a cheque of Le 7.5 Billion (about $900,000) to the president.
This is part of the Le 8.4 Billion that has been recovered in the last six months.
It effectively means recovery by ACC jumped by 800% this year.
