A ghastly road accident along the Waterloo-Masiaka highway has left three people dead and two others severely injured.

According to the District Traffic Officer of Waterloo Police Division, Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Magona, the fatal accident occurred at 11pm past Friday when a Mercedes Benz trailer with Registration Number ACJ 373 and a DAF 45 truck with Registration Number ALH 925 collided resulting in the instant death of the DAF truck driver, Umaru Kargbo and his two female passengers, Amie Sesay of Nyandeyama Section in Kenema and Isata Gborie of Bockarie Gbah Street in Kenema.

ASP Magona further informed Sierraloaded that the driver of the Mercedes Benz trailer, John Koroma of No. 2B Newstead Lane, Wellington, Freetown is in Police custody for further investigation.

He continued that the two severely injured people, Usman Sesay of 30 Zizer Farm, Brima Lane in Freetown and Ibrahim Kallon of 12 Arch Street, Kissy, Freetown, are receiving medical attention.

The District Traffic Officer assured this press that the accident will be thoroughly investigated to find out whether the deceased driver Umaru Kargbo of 11 Arch Street, Kissy, Freetown or the remanded driver John Koroma was at fault. The two vehicles, he said, were severely damaged.

Investigating the accident is Police Constable (PC0 8672 Mansaray. A. Over the years, horrendous accidents along the Waterloo-Masiaka highway has led to the death of several people despite the vigorous road safety campaign of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA).
