Last year 2015, Sierraloaded kick started the 20 Hottest Artiste List. And this year, we’re back again!

We’re fully in the last month of the year 2016, and within the time span of January 2016 and December 2016, several new artists have made their entrance into the Sierra Leonean music scene.

Some have made a lot of noise with their music, but only a handful of artists really had us putting their songs on repeat, making noise when a song came on and made serious impact between the aforementioned time period.

In the last 10-12 months, we’ve witnessed the growth of several superstars with hit songs, tours, endorsements and more.

Compiled by Sierraloaded team, the list is a true, undiluted run down of the Artists that shaped, defined and led music among Sierra Leonean consumers throughout the year. It encompasses those with the hottest songs, endorsements, tours, record deals, mega moves on the local and international scene, the award winners, and in general, the people we’ve listened and danced to for the past 12 months..

15. Markmuday

Markmuday has bossed the Afrobeats/DanceHall scene in Sierra Leone for the last 2 years, with his catalog of hits growing with virtually each new single.

Last year, himself and rumored lovebird, Rozzy debuted in #9 on the Hottest Artiste List. But this year, the Waterlara Music songster is seen taking the #15 spot alone. Markmuday’s continued existence in the Sierra Leonean music industry has been a story of perseverance, hard work and straight-up hustle. He didn’t walk into stardom; he bruised his way through, and ultimately earned it.

Markmuday shook the foundations of Sierra Leone dancehall music when He released the buzzing club banger “How Ar Connect” earlier in March. In fact, it’s top of the pile when it comes to quickly it attained “hit” status from the moment it was released. Within 7 days, it was virtually an anthem. And to this very moment, “How Ar Connect” is still one of the most played songs on the Sierra Leonean airwaves. Unfortunately, nothing or little has been done since then by the singer apart from attending Public events and local concerts.

It’s not without note that Markmuday’s failed promise to his fans might have caused some unprecedented damage to his musical career in 2016. The songster was on the spotlight after He posted a confirmed collaboration with Nigerian highlife King, Flavour on his timeline earlier in February. However, it is to the disappointment of many that the acclaimed “Baby Tidankay” single didn’t see the light of the day.

Our review would be incomplete without mentioning the rumored love scam allegations that caused some frenzy into Markmuday’s career in May. Regardless of the various challenges, Markmuday showed no stopping when He released “My Love” featuring Rozzy in September. “My Love” was a slow-burner; taking its sweet time to get into the hearts and minds of Sierra Leoneans home and abroad, and ultimately, West Africa as a whole. The song further went on to top the Charts in just weeks of release.

It’s not wrong to say Markmuday has had a good year after all. Hopefully, the ultra-talented singer, dancer will do so much more and finally make the jump we expect in 2017!
