Police Officers attached to the Criminal Investigation Department at the Regional Office of the Bo-West Police Station have confirmed the arrest and detention of twenty people.


The arrest is said to be in relation to the recent violence in the Lower Banta Chiefdom, Moyamba District, resulting into the burning down of the house of the Paramount Chief, Jibao Russell Nyama and loss of lives following a confrontation between a mob of riotous youths and the security forces.

According to the Police, the Senior Section Chief of Njagbahun, Abdul Gbagla, and the Town Chief of Gbangbatoke, Junior Pessima over whom the violence erupted are among the twenty arrested people accused of various offences ranging from murder, arson to riotous conduct contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

The Police continued that all the twenty arrested suspects are still in detention at the Bo-West Police Station while investigation is in progress.

It can be recalled that recently, a mob of youths went on the rampage in Gangbatoke and razed to floor level the house of the Paramount Chief after a failed meeting to reinstate the suspended Town Chief, Junior Pessima.
